I am interested in becoming Cisco certified. What kind of self study material would you prefer? Anyone?

The first thing I would do is start studying for the CCNA. The CCNA is Cisco's entry level exam and it cover the basics of networking. There are plenty of books the cover all of the topics for the CCNA exam. I would goto Cisco's site for more information.

Its possible to get many books from the online and you can refer and study them. But What I prefer is to go to a training center and get the course done because the Trainers who take classes not only trains you but can provide much more stuffs like live demo, ethical hacking etc which will be more interesting.

Have you tried going directly to Cisco. Their website says that they have some self-study options and they have a list of seminars and live webcasts: http://www.cisco.com/web/learning/

I would recommend you get the video tutorials from CBT Nuggets. Their tutorials are very informative and easy to understand. Most of the tutorials are conducted by well experienced lectures, specially the CISCO lessons.

CBT nuggets I definitely rate. the bryant advantage seems to get some good reviews although I only signed up for the free mail tutorials.
I find the cisco press texts are just all over the place in content but certainly a good reference when you want to look up something specific
